“Gadzooks,” yelled Joe Capeloto as he won gold during the Senior Olympics Thursday, July 22, at Emerald Court in Anaheim.
Capeloto battled his way past seven others in Wii bowling to claim the top spot. He laughed, saying he was amazed he beat the two best players in the house.
The competition, he said, “Makes you feel young again.”

About 30 seniors competed in the games, earning homemade medals in the cornhole toss, Wii bowling, giant Jenga, Scattergories, Volleyballoon and Day at the Races, a dice horse race game.
Volleyballoon pitted groups of seated seniors on each side of a net, swatting a balloon back and forth. Basic volleyball rules applied, but each athlete had to stay in their seat.
Emerald Court’s Wellness Director Kelsey Desmond said the Olympic games format really brings out the spectators and helps foster a sense of community.
